In our latest episode of HELUKABEL Podcast – The Series, we were honored to have an intimate conversation with a special guest, Mr. Marc Luksch, Managing Director of HELUKABEL Group. Despite his busy schedule, he still found the time to share insights about his work and life in our show.

Marc was born into a family with a tradition of manufacturing electrical cables for the industrial sector in Hemmingen, near Stuttgart, Germany. The country is not only known as “the heart of Europe” with a majestic natural landscape but is also the world’s leading machinery and equipment manufacturer.

As the family business successor, Marc grew up with the development of the HELUKABEL corporation. When he was a student, he regularly worked in warehouse and manufacturing jobs in his free time. After graduating from university, he began to officially work for the HELUKABEL corporation.

In 2009, to expand the HELUKABEL company, he and his wife moved to the US to grow the HELUKABEL brand. Thanks to their efforts, HELUKABEL® USA was established. In 2014, when the company gradually stabilized in the US, he returned to Germany and became Managing Director of HELUKABEL Group, the position he holds today.

*As a person who grew up with the development of the HELUKABEL corporation, can you explain the story behind the brand name “HELUKABEL”?

The name HELUKABEL is a combination of the names of the company founders and the products the business provides to the market. HELU comes from the first and last name of my father, Helmut Luksch. My mother’s name also starts with the letters H and E, so when they founded the company together in 1978, they chose these syllables and attached them to the German word “KABEL”, which means “cable”, to complete the “HELUKABEL” name.

* How do you manage difficulties in your role as Managing Director for over 9 years of a corporation available in 60 locations across 37 countries?

I would not call them difficulties, but challenges instead. Of course, challenges are inevitable in all of our lives. Particularly for a corporation of this size, it is natural to face challenges. I think that I can overcome challenges thanks to the solidarity of the team, I am working with colleagues who are very ambitious but also down to earth, so it's not too difficult when we encounter new challenges. In addition, I always focus on honing my management skills so that I can conquer any challenge.

*Currently, the "generation gap" is a common topic when it comes to human resource management in enterprises. So, with a corporation with about 2,200 employees across different generations, how do you effectively manage generation gaps?

When I work with many generations of different ages, I am inspired. Certainly, I feel happy to be able to attract so many talents from different generations to work for the corporation.

In addition, when talking about HELUKABEL, the core values that our business always focuses on are respect and trust. All members cling to these values to do their job well, we don't care how old you are, or where you come from, as long as you do well, we will always respect and believe in you.

*As a multinational corporation, you work with many different cultures. Why is this valuable for subsidiaries and how do you help them establish a feeling of belonging within the HELUKABEL Group?

We work in a multinational corporation with many cultures, this is an interesting thing, and I feel it every day. We work not only in different countries on a global scale but also locally. For example, in Germany, we have colleagues from 30 different countries, but we work and coordinate very effectively.

I feel that with a multinational corporation like HELUKABEL, we can bring flexibility, stability, and positive values to associates in all geographies. To connect our subsidiaries across different countries, we often hold meetings, inviting them to Germany to share their operations, ideas, and working experience. It is also an opportunity for people to interact with each other even though they come from different cultures.

*In 2021, after the Covid-19 pandemic, the global economy fell into a serious crisis. 2021 was a challenging year for everyone and especially businesses. However, during this period, the HELUKABEL group achieved a turnover of nearly 800 million euros, so what are some reasons for this success?

Although 2021 was a tough year for us and other businesses, we brought timely solutions to many industries – for example, we supplied automated factories in industries that lack human resources for production. In addition, we also supplied products towards renewable energy. These are some of the reasons why we achieved good results during these difficult times.

*If you were to talk about the highlights of the HELUKABEL group in the market of providing electrical connection solutions from Germany, what would you say?

I’m proud of our strong customer focus. We not only research and design new products, but we also find customers and assist them in customizing solutions to fulfill the technical requirements they set to produce the best products, most suitable for their application.

* Germany is known as one of the leading countries in climate and environmental policy, so what policies does HELUKABEL currently have to respond to and combine economic development with environmental protection?

We only have one planet, and each individual or organization should care for and protect our planet in different ways. At HELUKABEL, we always aim for sustainable development, we take advantage of renewable energy sources such as rooftop solar power for heating in winter and for production plants. We try to develop our business whilst ensuring the safety of the environment.

We ended the podcast with a fun, final question: If you had only 1 or 2 sentences to convince a customer to choose HELUKABEL, what would you say? “We say what we do and we do what we say”, said Marc.

Elaborating on the above statement, Marc explained that HELUKABEL’s success is built on trust and reliability. We look forward to new challenges and are always ready to find solutions for our customers in electrical connection technology in all industries.
