RS485 (also known as TIA-485 (-A) or EIA-485) is the name of a connection standard using signal transmission cables between devices, computers, PLCs, etc., allowing the system to receive information, monitor, and remotely control devices.

RS485 is known as the communication standard for a communication bus used to create simple networks of multiple devices. RS485 allows users to connect up to 32 devices on a pair of conductors and a ground wire, with a transmission distance of up to 1200m.

RS485 enables wide-ranging communication over long distances, ensuring the stability and accuracy of the signal. Therefore, in practice, RS485 is widely used as a protocol for POS, industrial, and telecommunications applications.

To minimize the impact of inteference during signal transmission, this type of cable is designed with the following physical structure:

  • Twisted pair structure: Rs485 anti-interference cable has a twisted pair conductor structure. This helps to minimize the impact of electromagnetic interference, causing the voltage between the two wires to deviate.
  • Anti-inteference layer: Rs485 cables are designed with 2 anti-inteference layers to shield the internal conductors. The outer layer of aluminum foil covers the entire conductive core, serving to counteract high-frequency interference. In addition, the braided layer consisting of many small, tinned copper wires acts to counteract low-frequency interference. This ensures maximum protection for the inner core.
  • Insulation/separator layer: This layer plays a role in insulation and enhances the durability and lifespan of the cable. Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is the material used for this layer.
  • Cable jacket: Made from high-quality PVC, the outermost jacket layer has high elasticity, helping to protect the cable from strong environmental impacts.
