3 types of oil-resistant cables

Nowadays, the industry has many positive transformations, which lead to improved infrastructure to accommodate and ensure smooth production. One of the key components is that the cable must maintain functional integrity and resistance to harsh chemical environments. Besides, to ensure that cables can operate effectively in these environments, oil-resistant cables are an optimal solution for automobile assembly plants, machinery manufacturing, or trade center sectors.

What are oil-resistant cables?

In the environment of oil and gas plants, chemical processing plants, assembly plants, etc, cables are often exposed to oil continuously, especially oil leakage will make the cable's sheath crack, swell, discolor, decompose, and affect the signal transmission speed, even disrupt the production process and cause economic losses.

Acting as a barrier to protect conductors from harmful environmental influences, oil-resistant cable sheaths have become indispensable in production and are of interest to most businesses. The more oil-resistant the cable sheath is, the less likely it is that the cable will be damaged, which in turn prolongs the service life of the cable and ensures efficient machine operation.

Why should we use oil-resistant cables?

Cable sheaths are considered oil-resistant when the material of the sheath is not affected or damaged by oils. The sheath should be of good resistance, and despite temporary or prolonged exposure to oil, the cable must preserve its integrity and not affect its internal transmission. Conversely, if the cable's outer sheath is not oil-resistant, it will lose its protection function. Some common phenomena when non-oil resistant cables, are exposed to oil include:

Cracking: It's a phenomenon that occurs due to the contact of the cable with oil and other chemicals resulting in the complete removal of the plastic in the cable. When that happens, the insulating and outer sheaths become hard, cracked, and fragile.

Swelling: It's too long exposure to oil, and other chemicals will cause oil to enter the plastic part of the cable sheath, increasing the size of the insulation and the diameter of the sheath, causing the cable to swell.

Discoloring: Discoloring is the result of exposure to oils and harmful chemicals, which will affect the cable sheath, affecting the coloring and properties of the sheath.

Damage to the cable when exposed to oil for a long time will seriously affect the transmission of the whole system. In the beginning, you maybe not realize what the consequences are until the transmission fails and affects the whole production system, even leading to a temporary shutdown to find out the cause remedial agent. Therefore, it plays an important role to choose the suitable cable for each production environment, for example, oil-resistant cables in areas with a lot of oil and chemicals.

Application of JZ-500 control cables

JZ-500 control cables are used for medium mechanical stress flexibly without tensile stress or forced movements in dry and wet environments. However, it is not suitable when applied for measurement and control in machine tools, conveyor belts, and production lines related to machine manufacturing, conditioning, and steel production.
