National electricity consumption exceeded 1 billion kWh/day for the first time

In the last days of May, hot weather reoccurred in many areas across all three regions, causing electricity consumption nationwide to soar to a record high. On May 28, national electricity consumption reached a record peak of 1.0019 billion kWh, marking the first time in history that daily national consumption exceeded 1 billion kWh.

In response to this record-breaking increase, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) emphasizes that demand response is one of the crucial solutions. This approach helps to reduce peak capacity during peak hours, alleviate the strain on the power grid and enhance the economic efficiency of the power system.

The UK is planning to generate electricity from drones

The UK is planning to generate electricity from drones with the AWES technology. Specifically, it collects wind energy at greater heights than traditional wind turbines by attaching a drone to a ground station. As the drone is pulled away from the ground station, the strong wind drives the generator, which produces electricity.

Researchers claim that the technology can benefit the UK’s energy sector by lowering its carbon footprint, offering flexibility for both offshore and onshore operations, and improving capabilities in remote areas.

HELUKABEL expands its product portfolio with HDMI cables

The HDMI port has long since been the standard for picture and sound transmission in not only private, but also public and commercial sectors. It is continuously finding use in new applications, such as in conference rooms, in train stations and airports, for public viewing events, or in private residences for home theatres, TVs, and gaming consoles.

Recently, HELUKABEL has expanded its product portfolio with HDMI cables. They are pre-assembled cables with multiple screening layers which enable transmission speeds up to 18 Gbit/s, and are available in lengths from 0.5 to 20 meters. Its high flexibility makes the HDMI cable an excellent choice for tight spaces or mechanical loads.

Copper prices are expected to continue to increase due to high demand

The price of copper has already increased by 28% since the start of the year, largely due to its critical role in renewable energy solutions. The global transition towards electrification has resulted in an increased demand for copper in several sectors, from electric vehicle manufacturing to solar power panels, wind power farms, data centers, and military applications.

Unpredictable supply stemming from geopolitical issues and labor disruptions in major copper-producing nations further threatens the balance between supply and demand. Experts predict a significant surge in copper prices for several years due to high demand and challenges in the supply chain.

The Japanese steel industry is shifting strongly to wind power

On May 26, Nippon Steel - Japan's largest steel manufacturer, announced its complete transition into producing thick steel plates for offshore wind turbines. These steel plates are 100 mm thick to withstand the harsh offshore environment and high-intensity earthquakes.

Previously, several major companies inside and outside the Japanese steel industry, including JFE Steel, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, NYK Line, and Tokyo Gas, also announced investment plans or joint ventures with foreign entities to produce equipment or provide related services.
