Laos proposes to sell 4,150 MW of wind power to Vietnam

Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has announced that it has received proposals from 7 wind power projects in Laos with a total capacity of nearly 4,150 MW intended for sale to Vietnam. Of the above, Lao investors aim to sell over 682 MW before 2025, with the remainder to follow thereafter.

According to the proposals, wind power projects from Laos are expected to be brought to Vietnam via the transmission lines in the Quang Tri area, meaning the amount of electricity purchased will depend largely on the infrastructure in this area.

Various activities in response to Earth Hour Campaign 2024

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just sent a document to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities and Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) on coordinating to organize activities in response to Earth Hour Campaign 2024.

Specifically, the event of turning off the lights for one hour in Earth Hour Campaign 2024 will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2024. Vietnam responds to this event annually to contribute to common efforts in combating global climate change.

Google inks the largest ever offshore wind agreement

In early February, Google announced its largest-ever offshore wind power purchase deal as part of its efforts to pursue green power supply and achieve climate target.

Accordingly, more than 700 megawatts of clean energy capacity will be added to the grid. Much of that new capacity will come from the pair of new offshore wind farms in the Netherlands, where Google operates two of its 24 data centers.

Gaza conflict ignites surge in demand for solar energy

Damage to submarine cables in the Red Sea disrupted the Internet

According to an exclusive report from Globes – an Israeli newspaper, four underwater communication cables between Saudi Arabia and Djibouti belonging to the AAE-1, Seacom, EIG and TGN systems have been damaged. The cause is believed to be the attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Damage to submarine cables in the Red Sea is disrupting telecommunications networks and forcing providers to reroute as much as a quarter of traffic between Asia, Europe and the Middle East, including Internet traffic.
