Decoding HELUDATA® UL 2919 cable through its outer sheath
Just by looking at the markings printed on the cable sheath, you can identify the key features of the HELUDATA® UL 2919 cable series. Let’s find out if this is the right cable for your application!
HELUDATA® UL 2919 is one of HELUKABEL’s signature UL-certified data cables. Commonly used in industrial automation and process control systems, this cable stands out for the characteristics encoded on its outer sheath:
*Take HELUDATA® 2919 PE/PVC-TP-C 30 GREY for example.
			1. PE/PVC
This marking indicates the materials used for the insulation and outer sheath:
- PE (Polyethylene): The insulation material surrounding tinned copper conductors, ensuring stable signal transmission and low attenuation.
- PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): The outer sheath material, providing excellent mechanical strength and resistance to environmental impacts.
2. TP-C
This describes the core structure and shielding of the cable:
- TP (Twisted Pair): Each pair of conductors is twisted with optimal lay lengths and wrapped with plastic-coated aluminum foil (St) to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk between pairs.
- C: Indicates that the cable includes an overall shield - a braided screen of tinned copper wires. This provides superior protection against external interference. If the “C” is absent, the cable doesn’t have a braided screen.
3. GREY
“GREY” denotes the color of the cable’s outer sheath - grey, which is commonly used for data or control signal cables in industrial environments. In addition, the sheath of HELUDATA® 2919 features meter marking, allowing users to easily measure and cut the desired cable length accurately during installation.
4. E170315 and Style 2919
These two codes refer to the UL certification (Underwriters Laboratories):
- E170315: The UL File Number assigned to HELUKABEL GmbH, confirming that the manufacturer is officially UL-recognized. This number can be looked up to verify product authenticity.
- UL Style 2919: A UL standard defining the technical requirements for multi-conductor cable with non-integral jacket, including specifications for voltage, temperature, insulation, shield, jacket…
5. 80°C and 30V
These values specify the safe operating limits of the cable:
- 80°C: The maximum operating temperature, ensuring safe and stable performance in industrial environments (temperature range: -30°C to +80°C).
- 30V: The peak operating voltage, ideal for signal transmission and industrial data communication (not for high power current installation purposes).
